All of our cold process soaps (cold process means we make them from scratch) are made by melting natural oils and different kinds of butter together, then adding a lye solution and mixing until it's emulsified and creamy! This ensures that the oil and water within are no longer separating from one another and all the ingredients are incorporated. Plus, we add a little less lye than required in our recipes to ensure there is no lingering lye! The mixture is then poured into our molds, where the reaction continues for 12-24 hours and is firm enough to cut and dry.

Did you know it's not called "soap" at this mixing step of the process? The ingredients take up to 30 days to finish reacting, and cure to become soap! The name of this process is called "saponification". Our cold process soap method makes bars that are harder, smoother, last longer and are gentle on the skin. Also, quality is our top priority, so we ensure to vet our products and allow them the time they need to process and cure. After that, we test to make sure we are delivering you our best products!

What Is Glycerin In Soap? Do Cold-process Soaps Have Glycerin In Them?

Glycerin is a naturally occurring by-product of the saponification process (This means it's in

our soaps). It also happens to be one of the most widely used ingredients in the skincare and cosmetics industry, because of its ability to effectively moisturize. All real natural soap (which is not made with synthetic detergents), is essentially glycerin soap.

Glycerine or glycerol, is a naturally occurring component of fats and oils that draws water to your skin. It essentially balances moisture levels and is shown to make skin look and function better by helping skin cells mature properly. Researchers have found that glycerol can help people with illnesses such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. Also, It may augment wound healing.

Because glycerin is a highly sought ingredient (it looks like thick, clear fluid), some manufacturers process this out of their soaps to create other cosmetic products, for example, in moisturizing lotions and creams. At GetnGiveCrafts, we do not remove ANY of the glycerin in our soaps. So they retain their natural high-glycerin content goodness!

All the moisturizing cold-processed natural soap bars we offer for use have a naturally high glycerin content and are great for skincare! For example, our pure, organic Bargain Bar, is PERFECT for people with sensitive skin. It has delicately balanced ingredients like Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Canola Oil, and more. Creating a rich lather to nourish all skin types.

Did you also know that what many people refer to as glycerin soap is transparent soap? This means it goes through a hot process, where sugars, alcohols, and extra glycerin are added to the regular soap mixture and heated until it reaches a clear, jelly-like consistency. To be clear, it is not chemically possible to make soap with only glycerin. It wouldn't lather or clean! The translucent glycerin soaps you see are made from oils, water, AND lye, and may have glycerine. They also have alcohols that prevent the soap from crystalizing, so it stays clear.

At GetnGiveCrafts we make our soaps using a traditional, cold-process method that gives us complete control over ingredients and offers the ability to modify, adjust, or customize our soaps and contains natural glycerin, which we do not remove. So if you're interested in looking at our variety or learning more about the good ingredients we've packed into our bars. Refer to the links below!

In a Nutshell

  • All-natural soap contains glycerin, a by-product of the saponification process.

  • Any real soap retaining its glycerin is, technically, glycerin soap!

  • Translucent soaps, often termed "glycerin soap" (which is a misnomer), are made through a different process and may contain added glycerin.
